DTS Fall Enrollment Breaks 2000
September 14, 2006
Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) continues to set new records for enrollment – up five percent from a year ago and the fourth straight year the seminary has posted record increases.
For the fall semester, DTS has 2,036 students on roll, officials said. The Seminary also has added two professors to its staff and broken ground for a new single student housing unit.
“We are certainly thankful for the trust people are placing in Dallas Seminary,” said DTS President Dr. Mark Bailey. “We are seeing a growing desire among people from a wide variety of backgrounds to pursue a theological education.”
DTS serves its students through five extension sites and a growing variety of online classes. This fall, 427 students enrolled are first-time DTS students - the largest number of incoming students in school history.
In addition, two new professors joined the ranks of Dallas Seminary this year. Barry Jones is the new chair of the Spiritual Formation and Leadership department, and Victor Anderson, a former missionary in Ethiopia, is serving as associate professor of pastoral ministries.
To accommodate the growth, the Seminary broke ground over the summer on a new seven-story housing unit – scheduled to open in 2008.
“I believe Dallas Seminary continues to grow, because of the quality and experience of our faculty, the caliber of our graduates, and a determined effort to extend our programs beyond the Dallas campus,” Dr. Bailey said.
As an example, Dr. Bailey notes, students are now able to complete the entire Master of Theology, Master of Biblical Studies and Master of Arts in Christian Education at the Houston campus, the Seminary’s largest extension site.
The 83-year-old Dallas Seminary is one of the largest non-denominational seminaries in the world, with more than 11,000 alumni serving in 96 countries. Internationally known for its scholarship and theology, DTS’ curriculum covers all 66 books of the Bible.
